NORMAN OPEN SECTIONAL SMASHES ATTENDANCE RECORD: Norman's 4th annual open sectional was held August 14-15 at the Union ballroom. With 116 tables, this was up almost 20% from 2009 and the largest sectional ever held in Norman (the previous record was 105 in 2007). Click here for the 2010 Norman Open Sectional.

NCBC PARTICIPATES IN WORLDWIDE BRIDGE PAIRS: Norman Campus Bridge Club participated in the annual Worldwide Bridge Pairs Friday evening contest. Congratulations to Jay Barron and Wellington Lee, who were our local winners. Click here to find out how everyone stacked up worldwide.

NORMAN OPEN, NON-LIFE MASTER SECTIONAL DATES ANNOUNCED: Norman's 4th Annual "Crimson and Cream" Open Sectional, open to all players, will be held on August 14th and 15th in the ballroom (3rd floor) of the Oklahoma Memorial Union. The 6th Annual Non-Life Master sectional, open to non-Life Masters with less than 500 points, will be held September 25-26 in the Union's Frontier-Heritage-Weitzenhoffer rooms. Flyers for both events will be posted shortly.

JOHN CLAYTON, JANE TUBB ON WINNING GNT FLIGHT C TEAM, HEAD FOR NEW ORLEANS: John Clayton and Jane Tubb formed half of the winning team in District 15's recent Flight C Grand National Teams final. They, along with Pat and Chuck Dollarhide, will represent in the district at the national finals held in New Orleans. A fundraiser game will be held to help the team offset expenses--details will be posted.

NCBC PLAYERS WIN AT OKC MAY SECTIONAL: NCBC winners in the recent May sectional include Jay Barron, Thursday afternoon pairs Flight A; Jerry Jones and Bette Maffucci, Thursday evening pairs Flight A; Pat Keating, Don Davis, Barbara Schindler, and Dolat Bhakta, Thursday KO Bracket 2; Vera Martson tied with Jerry Jones and Roger Neufeldt, Friday evening pairs Flight B; Lak Lakshmanan and Claire Hamilton, Saturday afternoon pairs Flights B and C; Pat Keating, Don Davis, Barbara Schindler, and Dolat Bhakta, Friday KO Bracket 3; and Charlie Scallon and Wellington Lee, Saturday KO Bracket 1. Wellington and Charlie paced Norman players for the weekend with 26.13 points apiece; Erin Cooper led the non-Life Masters with 5.88 points.

ERIC BELL NAMED DISTRICT 15'S FIRST ACBL STAR RECRUITER: NCBC club manager Eric Bell was named an ACBL Star Recruiter for recruiting 100 new ACBL members between Eric's DBC in Oklahoma City and NCBC. Eric received a $500 gift certificate and a Star Recruiter pin and certificate from the ACBL. Eric is the first club manager/teacher in our district (OK, KS, western MO, northwestern AR, TX panhandle) recognized for 100 new members.

ARLINE KRIMSKY WINS 2009 NCBC MASTERPOINT RACE: Arline Krimsky won the 2009 NCBC masterpoint race by picking up 44.95 points at NCBC. Second was Arline's regular partner, Wally Caponecchi (41.57) followed by 2008 winner Charlie Scallon (37.39). For the non-Life Masters Lak Lakshmanan led the pack with 24.11 points, followed by Erin Cooper (18.35) and Bob Karriker (16.96). Newcomer champion was Devin McCombs with 12.35 points, followed by Sam Spence (8.44) and Marilyn Saunders (4.81). In total, 101 players won points at NCBC in 2009, up from 95 in 2008.

SECOND ANNUAL NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY A SUCCESS: Six tables attended the 2009 New Year's Eve Party which Don and Janet Davis graciously hosted at their home. Congrats to Wally Caponecchi and Arline Krimsky who won, followed appropriately enough by our hosts, who were second.

CLUB CHANGING VENUES: Effective September 16 for the Wednesday open game and September 24 for the Thursday, intermediate/newcomer game, the club will be moving to the Norman Senior Citizens Center, 329 S Peters. Entry fees will be $5 for Wednesdays and $4 for Thursdays, except for K-12 and OU students who will remain free. We hope that the easier handicapped access and parking will be beneficial to our players.

NCBC HOSTS ACBL-WIDE INSTANT MATCHPOINT GAME: On September 9, the club held the annual ACBL Instant Matchpoint Game at the seniors center. This is one of only two chances all year players have to win gold points at a regular club game. Congratulations to Joe Veal and Jay Barron, North-South winners, and Barbara Schindler and Sue Goodner, East-West winners.

NORMAN NON-LIFE MASTER RESULTS: Click here for results of the non-Life Master tournament held August 29-30 drew 59 tables (up 13%), our second-largest turnout ever. Norman winners included Devin McCombs and Sam Spence, OVERALL winners of the Saturday Afternoon Pairs (Flights A, B, and C); and Peter Huggler, Sunday Swiss Flights B and C. Runners-up included Kathy Brooks and Lux Bhakta, Saturday Afternoon Pairs Flight A; Audrey Brumage and Jennifer Robinson, Welcome to Duplicate Pairs; Lak Lakshmanan and Erin Cooper, Saturday Evening Pairs Flights A and B; Devin McCombs, Sam Spence, Rajeev Sharma, and Lak Lakshmanan, Sunday Swiss Flight B. Devin McCombs and Sam Spence paced NCBC players by winning 4.14 points each. Ouida Lewis of Bixby and Betty Nelson of Owasso both made LIFE MASTER during the tournament so congrats to both of them!!!
